In UX/UI design you must learn the most important thing- to empathise with the user. Everything else comes after that.
As a designer you are presented with the problem and must work your way through a methodical process to find the best solution. The driving force behind all your design thinking is that the users needs must come first.
“User-centered design means understanding what your users need, how they think, and how they behave – and incorporating that understanding into every aspect of your process.” J Garett UX designer
Placing the needs of people above all is how we can use technology to make the world a better place. I am encouraged by my design process to think about others and empathise with people from different backgrounds.
